[Atsushi visits Avicebron semi-regularly, sometimes unannounced. Avicebron has a habit of avoiding him sometimes, and while normally Atsushi would do his best to respect that, Avicebron runs too low on Chroma for Atsushi to feel comfortable allowing him his distance. So, unnanounced visits.
He hadn't really considered that this might end up with him running into someone else at Avicebron's door.]
Ah, hello. Do you have plans with - Caster? [He definitely was about to say Avicebron's actual name before remembering not to.] I was just checking up on him, but I can come back another time...
[Sanson visits Avicebron less often than semi-regularly, considering his busy schedule, so it's sheer coincidence that he runs into someone with the exact same objective. He blinks, slightly surprised, and stares at the newcomer.]
Oh, no. [He shakes his head.] I thought of doing the same thing, actually, since we don't see each other all the time...
[Not to mention, it was always a comfort to know that other Servants who knew of Chaldea were stranded in this world with him. Misery loves company.]
He was well the last time I saw him, but it won't hurt to check. He's...
[Sanson probably already knows, given that he's friends with Avicebron and is here to check on him. Atsushi doesn't have to describe Avicebron's shut-in tendencies and lack of self-care.]
-well, it's good to know I'm not the only person who checks in on him.
[Yeah, even Sanson isn't as much of a shut-in as Avicebron is. It helps that he has Marie to pull him out of his shell, and being a doctor brings him to a lot of people.]
I also come from the same world as he does.
[Even if Avicebron may be from the future, since Sanson doesn't remember running into him in Chaldea back home.]
[ The regular courier service has come and gone by the time there's a knock at the door. Investigation will reveal one carefully wrapped parcel, tied with a ribbon for this occasion.
Inside this package, Charles will find an assortment of teas and Cafe Azure's house blend of coffee, along with sweets that have been selected to pair with each.
An accompanying card reads:
Remember to care for yourself as well as you do others.
[truly, Sanson's gift to Robin is MUCH BETTER than this something he found at some small boutiquey store. the cool thing about it, Robin thought, was how the ink would change color as you wrote with it.
and Sanson, highborn as he is, knows how to read and write. attached is a small and simple note in what might be familiar scrawl:]
[ It's a little past 4 PM that Sanson will hear Weiss' voice in his head. She saw a ton of messages and missed calls from him once she was able to check her device. It's understandable, and one of the first things she checks as soon as she's able is the seal on the back of her hand. It wasn't there when she went to Remnant.
But she also didn't know she made a contract with a Servant to begin with.
It's only now that she's back that she remembers. It's... familiar, almost. Wasn't Sanson's situation the same just a while ago? ]
Charles, this is Weiss. I think... what happened to you happened to me, too— No, I'm pretty sure it was the same thing. I was back in Remnant, and I couldn't remember anything here. A few weeks have passed for me, but it's only been a few days here.
[Before he can say anything, he just gasps over the telepathic connection they share as Master and Servant. He had been wondering whether or not Weiss would return, just as he had, or if she would be gone for good like his two previous Masters. Even though it was comforting to know she was in no real danger (never mind that Remnant came with its share of dangers), he wasn't sure if the feeling of uncertainty was preferable.]
Weiss! [Relief washes over him.] I'm glad you're back. Are you all right? Do you need anything?
[What happened to her while she was in Remnant? Sanson wanted to know.]
[Too bad emotional exhaustion is not a status effect he can dispel with his healing powers. But he doesn't miss her weary tone of voice.]
It's all right. [His words are soft and he hopes he sounds reassuring.] It's not your fault. But even if you do have people to talk to, please find some time to rest for a short while, and breathe.
[Don't make him show up on your doorstep with hot soup and tea all of a sudden, Weiss.]
[ If there's anyone good at taking care of herself, it's her. She pushes herself to be better at all times, but she also makes sure never to lose herself. In the same vein, she never lets herself stay down for long. Weiss is plenty headstrong. ]
I initially have plans with Midorima and Cloud. I might be out of contact for a few days, if they still want to push through with what we've organised.
[Headstrong or no, Sanson worries about her anyway. That was his job. Weiss may be a skilled Huntress but she was still fundamentally human, and therefore less durable than he is.
Wait, he wasn't going to be able to contact her again? For another few days? That gives him pause even if she wasn't going to be alone.]
...Where will you be going?
[Sanson doesn't ask about the what. If it's Midorima and Cloud, he can surmise that it's a Valentine's Day thing. Or things.]
Honestly? I have no idea yet. Midorima's the one who made all the plans and doesn't want to reveal anything.
[ He just told her what to bring?? She's excited, though. ]
He told me that it's to celebrate my birthday with him, but I said I don't celebrate my birthday, so he mentioned Valentine's Day and it's just.. [ A telepathic groan can be heard. ] I'd prefer to celebrate my birthday rather than some holiday I don't know. Thanks.
Cloud and I are going to a resort for a staycation after that, though.
here's a surprise, from a strange visitor: one tiger-striped, man-shaped cat with a crooked grin and an unspoken penchant for being a busybody.
there's a reason why he's here, of course— an unfamiliar custom that he's adopted as an excuse to dump a whole box of macarons in Sanson's arms. that said, will Bardo explain himself?
the answer is no. his tail waves behind him, slow and steady. ] Surprise.
[Sanson certainly wasn't expecting Bardo, but Bardo is not at all unwelcome. The timing is also pretty good - Sanson is still riding the emotional high of finally becoming an official couple with Marie, so his expression of surprise at his visitor and the box of macarons thrust into his arms eventually gives way to a smile.
Bardo might notice that the smile comes more easily, as if it didn't have to fight against Sanson's face muscles to reveal itself.]
Oh...thank you very much, Bardo. This is...extremely thoughtful of you. What's the occasion?
[It doesn't occur to Sanson yet that it's White Day. While it's familiar to him especially from his time in Chaldea, it's still not an automatic thing for his brain to register, especially not in an alien world.]
[ "extremely thoughtful", Sansons says, and Bardo does lean in to gauge the serious-minded 'young' man's mood. that's a generous thing to say to a guy who showed up unannounced to dump a box of sweets in someone's hands, after all. ]
Hm? I thought humans like you would know about today, but I guess I was wrong.
[ roundabout, as usual. ] Something about returning favors? Ring a bell?
[Well, it's not like people regularly show up to drop off a load of macarons on other people. But when Bardo mentions "returning favors", Sanson's eyes widen, and not only because he knows this holiday.
...It's because he feels like giving Marie something for it, even if they pretty much swapped gifts (and smooches) last Valentine's Day.]
Oh, White Day! But...I didn't give you anything for Valentine's Day. Or the Coiled Hearts Festival. [There's nothing for Bardo to repay.]
Ahh, I know. Probably would've been weird if you had, don't you think?
[ he laughs at the thought of it; it's evident that he's not here because he'd following tradition or obligation. he doesn't have to, after all— he's not human, and he's not bound to human culture.
which means that he's here because he felt like it, which is ostensibly the worst reason, but. oh well. ]
Don't think too hard about it, at any rate. I'm just here because you've humored me in the past, and I figured I'd do something about it before I started feeling guilty.
[It's true. It might've been weird, but at least it would've made sense. But the fact that Bardo is only here because he wants to be, is very touching.]
Nevertheless, thank you again. Would you like to stay for tea?
[Even if Bardo said he was doing this because Sanson humored him in the past, Sanson still wants to express his gratitude in a more concrete way.]
[ his instinct is to refuse. even now, a part of him rebels against the concept of overstaying— of lingering too much in anyone's thoughts, even on a positive note.
still, he's the one that came here. he shifts on the balls of his heels, considering, before letting his ears prick forward in concession. ]
Sure. I'm always curious to know what someone else's kitchen looks like.

I don't. Actually, I don't know what that means...?
