Physically alright. Emotionally? I'm tired. I need to talk to some people first, though.

[ And it probably sounds that way even if it's just a mental conversation. ]

[Too bad emotional exhaustion is not a status effect he can dispel with his healing powers. But he doesn't miss her weary tone of voice.]

It's all right. [His words are soft and he hopes he sounds reassuring.] It's not your fault. But even if you do have people to talk to, please find some time to rest for a short while, and breathe.

[Don't make him show up on your doorstep with hot soup and tea all of a sudden, Weiss.]

I know. I will.

[ If there's anyone good at taking care of herself, it's her. She pushes herself to be better at all times, but she also makes sure never to lose herself. In the same vein, she never lets herself stay down for long. Weiss is plenty headstrong. ]

I initially have plans with Midorima and Cloud. I might be out of contact for a few days, if they still want to push through with what we've organised.

[Headstrong or no, Sanson worries about her anyway. That was his job. Weiss may be a skilled Huntress but she was still fundamentally human, and therefore less durable than he is.

Wait, he wasn't going to be able to contact her again? For another few days? That gives him pause even if she wasn't going to be alone.]

...Where will you be going?

[Sanson doesn't ask about the what. If it's Midorima and Cloud, he can surmise that it's a Valentine's Day thing. Or things.]

Honestly? I have no idea yet. Midorima's the one who made all the plans and doesn't want to reveal anything.

[ He just told her what to bring?? She's excited, though. ]

He told me that it's to celebrate my birthday with him, but I said I don't celebrate my birthday, so he mentioned Valentine's Day and it's just.. [ A telepathic groan can be heard. ] I'd prefer to celebrate my birthday rather than some holiday I don't know. Thanks.

Cloud and I are going to a resort for a staycation after that, though.

[ Equal treatment!!! ]

[Somehow he's not surprised that Midorima WOULD be secretive. Or that Weiss isn't the type to celebrate her birthday.]

I see. Just let me know when you've returned home. And...

[Sanson hadn't been sure if he should still buy a present for her when she disappeared. Who knew when she would return? But he DID set aside a tidy sum of Chroma in case she did. Now he's going to bolt to the nearest fancy boutique.]

I'll be sending you a package before you leave. For your birthday. You can consider it a "welcome back" sort of gift, if you'd prefer.

[schmisse]

There's been a change of plans. I'm meeting Midorima in an hour, if you want to drop by now.

[ She might even ask Cloud to visit her for a short while. Company as she packs and all! ]

An hour... [Already he's thinking of what to buy for her. Maybe some clothes she can use during her time away. But he doesn't even know where she's going.

Don't make him shake your boyfriends for information, Weiss!!!]

I'll come over in a while. Do you want me to bring you anything?

[Healthy snacks? A first-aid kit?]

We can have tea. Bring what you want.

[ Weiss will be up and about and can't chat much, but at least there is tea! ]

[Tea is a very good idea. It will be a while - around twenty minutes - before he arrives with a package containing this blue coat and this white dress, along with a small bag of croissants to go with the tea. He may or may not have taken advantage of his Servant agility to make sure he gets there in under half an hour. Not to mention, it was difficult to choose presents that were not only useful, but were also to her liking. This is why he doesn't really buy Marie clothes.

He speaks up over their telepathic link.]

I'm outside.

[ It may come off as a surprise that when Weiss opens the door, she looks plenty different. He's seen her in her combat dress before, but what she wears now has a lot more layers and looks more like a battle outfit than her previous one. A short dress with a baby blue wrap around, then over it is a blazer with puffy sleeves. The hairpin she wears has changed, as well, as are her earrings, red now and they match the diamond-shaped jewels on top of her head. Of course, the trademark side ponytail she's worn for so long is replaced with a braid, and her bangs are a lot tidier than they used to. ]

Hi. Come in.

[ Before their mental conversation had ended, Weiss tells Sanson to go to another apartment than the one he's more familiar with. this just so happens to be her own apartment now, but there are still boxes on the floor and it doesn't look all that ready yet. The bigger pieces of furniture are already there, though, so that's good. ]

You're actually my first visitor in this place.

[She does look different - but in a good way. It was as if she had done a fair bit of growing up back in Remnant on top of the outfit change even though she had only been there for a few weeks.

Anyway, he walks inside, closing the door behind him, and can't help but take in the decor, the shades of white and blue, the piano in the living room...everything exuded an aura of serenity and maturity. His Master is growing up...

Sanson smiles and begins taking mental notes about the layout of her apartment. Just in case.]

I'm honored. It looks beautiful. [He offers her the neatly-wrapped package. Since he was giving it to her personally, he didn't think it necessary to include a card.] I hope you like these, I picked them with your trips in mind.

[schmisse]

There's still a lot I need to fix, but everything should be functioning.

[ She gives the living area and part of the dining that she can see a nod, then looks back at Sanson to receive what he's picked out for her. ]

Thank you. Can I open it now?

[painalty]

Go ahead.

[He nods...and feels a twinge of self-consciousness which he promptly tries to suppress. Maybe next time he'll just gift her with a healthy home-cooked French dish.]

I also brought croissants to go with the tea.

[schmisse]

[ She leads Sanson further in so they can both sit down on the couch. Weiss is careful when opening the present, making sure the wrapping paper doesn't get torn or anything. Once she's finally opened the package, she looks at him with an expectant smile. ]

This is the first birthday gift I've had in so long.

[painalty]

[He sits down on the couch as well, placing the croissants on the table before watching Weiss unwrap her present. Sanson relaxes visibly at Weiss' reaction.

But something she says catches his attention, and he can't help but ask:]

Your sister doesn't give you gifts? I mean, I understand that you don't celebrate it, but... [Wouldn't Winter at least send her something as a courtesy? Then he catches himself and adds:] No, it's all right if you don't answer that.

[schmisse]

She was either always off in school or at work.

[ Weiss doesn't really look bothered as she talks. It's... normal for her now! And it's part of why she grew up lonely. ]

You don't have to feel bad or anything— I'm used to it.

[painalty]

[She doesn't have to stay lonely. Especially not here.]

Now, you have to get used to receiving birthday presents while you're here. Bon anniversaire, Weiss.

[Sanson is definitely not one to throw a party, but:]

Shall I make tea for both of us?

[schmisse]

Tea sounds good.

[ She is more of a coffee person, but at this time? With the croissants? Tea sounds better. Also— ]

What does "bon anniversaire" mean? [ And hey! She got the accent right. ]

[He stands up so he can go and make the tea. And, he's proud that she nailed the accent.]

It means "happy birthday" in French. I can teach you other phrases and words, if you'd like. Cloud himself may know a few by now.

[Sanson wouldn't put it past Cloud to try and learn French to impress Marie.]

[schmisse]

[ Weiss will follow him to the kitchen and just hang by the counter. ]

... Cloud?

[ Totally clueless, and she totally sounds like she's questioning this a little bit too much. ]

I don't mind learning, but why would he know?

[painalty]

[He peers into Weiss' cupboards and begins taking out the cups, the saucers, and the teapot, listening to her footsteps.]

Marie is teaching him. He told me so during the Firialia ball. [Because at that time, the breaking of a few nuts gave Cloud full knowledge of French for 24 hours.]

[schmisse]

[ Huh! Cloud's never mentioned... but that's one more new thing she knows about him now. Besides, how long has it been since they started dating? Wouldn't it be creepy if Weiss crept into every single facet of his life? ]

You're going to have to teach me, then. So I know he's being ridiculous when he tells me "bon bon mademoiselle" and says it means "your face looks nice" but it's actually "you have something on your face".

[That almost gets a laugh out of him and he has to pause to stifle it before bringing water to a boil.]

Very well, if he does say that, pay attention to whether he says "bon, bon" or "bonbon". "Bon" means good, but "bonbon" refers to candy.

And "you have something on your face" is, "tu as quelque chose sur le visage."
